With you on all of this. I'm at such a low ebb, and the mainstream news sources are at such a low ebb, that when they post video (from two angles) of Trump and Rubio tripping on the stairs of Air Force One, I watch it dreamily on repeat and feel soothed. In an article I read today, there was a link to a video of Melania's smile falling away to be replaced by a grimace of disgust during the Birthday Moron Parade. I watched her fake smile go to a grimace on repeat. We find our reassurance where we can. (An aside: How much can Trump be paying Melania to make holding his tiny, sweaty little hand and smiling worth it?) Threads is a strange place. I also stopped using it a week ago. Instagram keeps trying to lure me back, but I delete their attempts. Today, for the first time in a very long time, I didn't get on any social media at all. My news is a limited morning review to make sure I have a cursory idea of where we are. After reading any emails or posts by Pete, Bernie, my senators Patty and Maria, Heather Cox Richardson, and Margaret Sullivan, and a verification that the planet still exists, I do my games, and then I try to live in the tattered world. At present all is not well. We will survive this.
And the crazy thing is 99% of this BS doesn’t even need to be happening! It’s all manufactured nonsense. I do think we could give more thought to taking up the art of striptease. It won’t solve anything, but if things are gong to be this out of control for the next several years, may as well whip ourselves around a pole a few times and see what happens. You know, the women of France are protesting femicide while topless. If there’s one thing the French know how to do, it’s protest (everyone thinks it’s baguettes, but it’s actually going on strike the moment you’re about to board the train on Christmas Eve). I’m not sure where I’m going with this, but if I’ve learned anything in the past 6 months, it’s that there are no bad ideas anymore. Stripteasing protesters wouldn’t be the worst float in the 4th of July parade
